Adventures in Baby Led Weaning, Day 3

Standard

Day 3

Again with the mush?

I had loads of rice cereal left over, so I decided to give it to her again with a little avocado and breast milk mid-morning. Man this stuff is messy. Those tiny bits of kernel get EVERYWHERE and they dry like spackal. I decided that it would be easier for me to wash a long sleeve onesie than to wash her arms. I also used an ungodly amount of paper towel. I am not proud.

R.I.P., baby spoon. You were loved. 6/12/12-6/13/12

I did feed her one spoonful, just to see that she got a taste. After that I pre-loaded and let her bang away. She was really into the teething aspect of the spoon, I think the fact that there was food on there was just a side-effect.

Hubs is out-of-town tonight, so I’m not sure if I want to feed her dinner alone. I’d like to give her a sweet potato “fry” for dinner. (We have quotation marks because they are oven-baked.) We’ll see, I just want back-up in case we get another freaky gaggy moment. Someone’s gotta pour the wine!

Didn’t get a pic with the peach, but there’s the tell-tale sheen of peach juice on her happy little face.

*Hours later*…I decided to give her a little bit of peach. It was too slippery for her to pick up, so I held it and she chomped down. She kind of gnawed it and sucked at it. Whenever she got a bit with her tiny teeth, she chewed it and spit it back out, every time. She loved it though! I know that I am not exactly jumping in head first, but I am in. I love the idea behind this method and we’ll do our best.

Anyone else out there doing BLW and have some feedback/advice? I would love to hear it!

I made some sweet potato “fries” for tomorrow (400 degree oven, cut into big sticks, tossed with olive oil, cumin, baked for 15-20 min). Stay tuned!

  1. Tracie, I love these adventures 🙂 I made all of Sofia & Gabriele’s babyfood and loved it. About the gagging thing…have you tried buying these little mesh pouches? I can’t remember the name of them right now. But, you can put a peach in, for instance, close and they suck through the mesh.

  2. aw, thanks so much for reading! there aren’t many blogs out there that talk about this approach to solids, at least not that i’ve found. i have seen the feeders and i am very tempted to use one, but baby lead weaning is all about giving them the actual food so that they learn early how to negotiate pieces in their mouths.
that being said, i’ll probably end up trying one very soon!
